Have you ever gone from feeling great to feeling like sht within moments? It happened to me recently and I used my self-talk to turn it around.

Mondays, I go dancing. It is so fun. It is one of my favourite times of the week.

One week, I was walking downtown on my way to the dance studio, feeling good and confident. I took a quick detour into a boutique to look at dance clothes.

I was in the dressing room, looking at myself in the mirror and I didn’t like what I saw. I thought – man, is this lighting ever unflattering in here. That’s when I realized that I had left the house without any makeup on. I had run out the door and completely forgotten.

Suddenly, all my confidence was gone. I felt defeated and insecure. I even thought of heading back home.

Then I decided to guide myself with my self-talk. I told myself that it would be a shame to miss a dance class that I loved so much. I also told myself that I could pull off being without makeup, and still be beautiful.

So I put my shoulders back, stood tall, and walked out of the dressing room with a new swagger.

I had the best time ever dancing that evening.
