Self love affirmation: I choose forgiveness

Self love affirmation: I choose forgiveness

I read today about the amazing power of forgiveness, and that forgiveness is a form of grace. And this grace can supersede all else. So that would mean that if I bestow forgiveness – whether on myself, or another person --this can be more potent that whatever happened to create a state where forgiveness was needed. It’s also about asking for -- with great humility -- and accepting forgiveness from others.

It comes up a lot forgiveness. It’s all over sacred texts. It’s a key stone of therapy and healing. It’s in the Hawaiian prayer of forgiveness, the Ho'oponopono Prayer.

Mercy is the oppose of believing in the unforgivable – where we remain chained to a person or circumstance. I’m very interested in forgiveness right now frankly because I want grace. I equate grace with peace of mind, peace of heart, joy, freedom, relaxation and calm, and way more levity. I equate grudges, unforgivable-ness, and resentment to being imprisoned with a person, event or circumstance, cut off from my power. If where I put my attention is where my energy goes, then I certainly don’t want to put my focus towards keeping such a soul wrenching situation going. Unforgiving is feeding the monster with my own energy.

I know that I have been so angry at myself and others that I have withheld forgiveness. I see now that it was a retaliation, a form of punishment – what was done was so terrible that I want you to pay for it forever and I’ll make sure that happens by not forgiving you, by being passive aggressive, or feeling so sorry for myself.

Forgiveness is also a step in rebuilding trust in myself, in life and in the divine. It’s a building block and an end all in itself.

To forgive what we believe is unforgivable – therein lies our choice and our power to free ourselves.  So how is it done? I’m not sure yet, but it begins with our intention, with our inner words, with a choice to forgive and to tell our whole being that that’s the direction we’re heading in.

My self talk:

  • I choose to forgive.

  • With humility and with nobility I ask for forgiveness.

  • Please forgive me. I’m sorry. I love you. Thank you.

  • My love for myself is unconditional, exceeding even my desire to punish myself for any mistakes or wrongdoings.

  • My love for myself is unconditional, exceeding even my desire to punish someone or life for any mistakes or wrongdoings.

  • I’m excited to experience what’s on the other side of forgiveness.

  • I am invincible.

  • I trust myself, I trust life and I trust the divine.
