Positive self talk: I choose to love my body

Positive self talk message: I choose to love my body

Admittedly, I am not the one who looks great in everything, I am no great beauty, and I’m far from perfect (oy vey), and yet, and yet, I cannot help but love myself and love my body.

It feels taboo to write I love my body. It’s like a statement that someone on a weight loss commercial would say, and yet, it is true, I love my body.

I love my body in the way that I love cedar trees, The Beatles, my dog Yoyo, swimming in the ocean, and crunchy fall leaves underfoot. Just because… No reason at all except that I love it.

I love my body also because it is mine. This body that enables me to be in the game of life. In this life, I have but this one body. I care for it like I do all that falls within my care, my guardianship, my jurisdiction. This body that serves me every day, a servant to my every wish.  I thank my body for its service. This body that I will leave one day, slipping out of it like I do a favorite ensemble at the conclusion of a long evening out on the town.

So yes I cannot help but love this body. And my eyes respond to this love. The more I choose to love it, the more beautiful I find it. Beauty if in the eyes of the beholder. Even as I look at my tummy in the bath and wonder what it would be like to have a six pack, I still love it. In this intimacy, I am gentle with myself, like I would be with a beloved revealing the nakedness of their body and heart to me.

 My self-talk:

  • I choose to love my body.

  • The more I love my body, the more beautiful I find it.

  • My body is under my care, and guardianship.

  • My body is my loyal servant and I thank it for its service.

  • Hey body, I love ya! Just cause you're mine.
