"I belong."
Many of us have had a lingering feeling deep inside that we don’t really belong here in this life, that we are different, that we are somewhat out of sync with others. We feel like the ugly little duckling, looking for our real place, our real people. As Hafiz said: “First, the fish needs to say, “something ain’t right about this camel ride – and why am I feeling so damn thirsty.”
One of the definitions of displacement is that feeling. I realize I’ve carried it with me for a very long time. But now, I’m here to tell myself that I do belong. That this planet is my home and I have a very legitimate place here. Even more than that, I’m here for a reason. I am needed just the way I am. The real authentic me, the way I am designed, is exactly as it needs to be.
There are many styles of humans emanating many different energies and we all belong here. We share this home like cats and platypus and zucchinis and pomegranates share this planet. The way to find our real people and to connect with them is to let ourselves be. Only when we are real can our true loves know us and come forward.
There’s such a sweetness in being with a kindred spirit, when you speak the same language, when you seem to be cut from the same cloth. What a joy and a relief to be in the presence of such a person.
There’s also a joy in belonging to other people who are very different from me but with whom I share compassion and benevolence. We love each other as a piglet can love a baby cow (See today’s video 😊)
I belong also to this earth. I belong to the divine. And very importantly, I belong to my own self. And to fully belong to myself, I need to know who I am: that I’m a fish who has no business being on a camel. And once I know who I am, watch me thrive in the open ocean.
