With so much fear out there and maybe inside too, we all need to hear our inner voice of self-compassion. The other morning, I needed a good session with my inner voice of self-compassion. I was tired, and anxious and sad about the situation in the world. I wanted to cry, and so I did. I am often capable to elevate my emotions and energy, but that that moment I needed release and comforting.
I needed the presence of a good friend. A Viv to my Lucy. That’s when I started to speak to myself with this most loving, kind, and loyal of all my inner voices.
She’s like a good friend who comes over for tea and brings flowers. She may not have any solutions to offer you, but you can lean on her. She sits with you and shows you that she’s listening, that she sees how hard this is for you. She doesn’t judge your feelings, or what you are doing to handle things. She’s present. She’s your witness. You are soothed by her presence. You are restored. You are no longer alone. You trust her fully. For dog lovers, she’s like a good old faithful lab.
This marvelous friend is your inner voice of self-compassion, and she is always available to you. Call her up. Bring her forward. Ask your inner critic or your inner scaredy cat to move over, and let her sit right next to you on the sofa. She is like a soft blanket on a chilly evening.
Your inner voice of self-compassion is LOVE. And today, we all need way more LOVE. It’s ours to give to ourselves, and to all those around us.
My self-talk:
· I see how worried you are.
· I see that you are scared.
· I see all the efforts you are making and how hard you are trying.
· I really love you just the way you are. You don’t have to do anything or be any better for me to love you.
· This too shall pass my beautiful friend.
